About Reach Out and Read Texas
Reach Out & Read - Texas began in 1999 as the statewide initiative to expand ROR throughout Texas. With over 200 ROR programs in community health centers, children's hospitals, and pediatric practices in Texas, ROR-TX has surpassed its original goal of starting 20 new ROR programs annually. To date, we have trained over fifteen hundred health care providers, including pediatric residents in training. ROR-TX collaborates with school districts, public libraries, community literacy coalitions, medical societies and others to enhance our literacy efforts throughout the state.

More About Reach Out & Read - Texas
Texas ROR program sites each serve a unique pediatric population. ROR-TX exists to provide a coordinated effort; minimizing duplication and competition among program sites and ensuring program integrity. ROR-TX activities are directed at building a strong coalition of ROR sites. They fall into the following categories: 1. New site identification and assistance with start-up application, 2. Technical support to help sustain program standards, 3. Training in ROR methodology, 4. Capacity building including helping ROR program staff create collaborative programs that enhance the mission of ROR and help ROR families receive services they need, and 5. Book funding necessary for sites to operate.
