Grammy-Winning Musician Brings Books to Kids

Bowles is the author of four books for kids, starting with 2012’s Amy Giggles — Laugh Out Loud, and he recently donated a thousand of his books to Reach Out and Read Georgia, a nonprofit which partners with health care professionals to promote reading and get books in the hands of children.

ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) – He’s known to music fans around the world as a member of the Grammy-winning Zac Brown Band. But it’s his successful – and unexpected – career as a children’s book author that recently brought Georgia-native Coy Bowles to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding.

Bowles is the author of four books for kids, starting with 2012’s Amy Giggles – Laugh Out Loud, and he recently donated a thousand of his books to Reach Out and Read Georgia, a nonprofit which partners with health care professionals to promote reading and get books in the hands of children.

The musician decided to distribute some of those books himself at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding last week, during a visit in which he also read to patients and chatted with families.

Says Bowles of the experience meeting with young readers, “I could go and meet a fan of Zac Brown Band and not be nervous at all, because I know that they paid money to come see the show, so you know that they love you guys, you know? So there’s this instant kind of, like, connection with them. Whereas I get so nervous meeting kids! Because there’s so much truth in kids!

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken also stopped by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding and followed along as Coy Bowles visited with kids and their families.
