St. Croix Health-St. Croix Falls clinic welcomed State Senator Romaine Quinn on Thursday, May 1 for Reach Out and Read Wisconsin’s fifth of six legislative visits. Senator Quinn was able to tour the clinic, read aloud to a few children, and hear from St. Croix Health staff on the impact and importance of having the Reach Out and Read program as a standard of care across all St. Croix Health clinics.
St. Croix Health noted on its Facebook page that it “appreciated the opportunity to host Reach Out and Read Wisconsin, Senator Quinn, and an audience of kiddos to demonstrate and acknowledge the importance of reading and literacy through all stages of life.”
Along with the St. Croix Falls clinic, the Reach Out and Read program is offered at the following St. Croix Health clinics: Balsam Lake, Frederic, Lindstrom, and Webster.
Prior to touring the clinic and hearing from staff, Senator Quinn read Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type By Doreen Cronin to the children in attendance.
After the visit, Senator Quinn stated “literacy is a priority of the legislature and we are always looking downstream on how to fix it. I think this [Reach Out and Read] is a great opportunity to invest early and see those dividends pay off later.”
Reach Out and Read Wisconsin is engaging legislators statewide to raise awareness about the program, its impact, and the importance of early literacy and early relational health.
The final legislative visit is set for Friday, May 9. Emplify Health by Bellin Ashwaubenon Clinic will host State Senator Eric Wimberger.
