Gettysburg Times: Books become part of the checkup in Adams County



Only 33% of fourth graders in Pennsylvania performed at or above the proficient level on the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress reading assessment, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. That is why Reach Out and Read wants clinicians to begin discussing language and reading during a child’s earliest appointments instead of waiting until difficulties appear in school.
