As Reach Out and Read Georgia’s Medical Director and President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, I love what Reach Out and Read means for my patients and their families.
My mother, a middle school librarian and an avid reader, prioritized education and instilled in me the lesson that reading is the gateway to opportunity. I have such powerful memories of being read to by my mom. The intimacy that reading aloud creates for families is why I read to my two daughters, and it has become the cornerstone of my practice of pediatrics. Modeling reading aloud and empowering parents to experience this joy for themselves with their children is one of the most important and impactful tools I have at my disposal as a pediatrician.
Having that joy of reading, that warm interaction with a parent, that feeling you can count on every single evening – that is what Reach Out and Read provides to families across Georgia.
Please support me and my fellow health care providers in this very important work by giving today.
