Outreach Community Health Centers Celebrates being Reach Out and Read Wisconsin’s 300th Clinic

Senator Dora Drake and Representative Darrin Madison visited Outreach Community Health Centers Friday, March 28 to read to a group of young children, tour the clinic and see the impact of the Reach Out and Read program.

The hour-long event also included a celebration for Outreach Community Health Centers being Reach Out and Read Wisconsin’s 300th clinic. Through Reach Out and Read Wisconsin’s Adopt-a-Clinic Initiative, Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin provided first-year startup funding for Outreach Community Health Centers. Representatives from Molina Healthcare of Wisconsin were also in attendance.

The Reach Out and Read program was implemented at Outreach Community Health Centers in October of 2024. The center sees about 100 well-child visits for children birth to five years.

Children from The City School (4k and 5k students) attended the read aloud. Rep. Madison read Pete the Cat: Why I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin and Senator Drake read Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

Outreach Community Centers CEO Julie Harris-Robinson and Dr. Nicole Mubanga, Chief Medical Officer, provided the tours.

“The opportunity to just simply read with kids is a gift. Senator Drake and I are consistently in conversations with families and a lot of folks in positions of power talking about what our kids need. To be in a space where we can directly see the value of reading with young people is a gift and it brings me joy and I know it brought a huge smile to Senator Drake.” – Representative Darrin Madison
