Brookfield’s Primrose School Makes a Big Difference with Book Drive for Children’s Wisconsin

BROOKFIELD, Wis. – Primrose School of Brookfield recently donated over 1,000 books to the Reach Out and Read program at Children’s Wisconsin-Westbrook Pediatrics after holding a month-long book drive throughout February that culminated on Read Across America Day on March 3.

Primrose School of Brookfield—an accredited early childcare and education facility that offers infant, toddler, preschool, pre-kindergarten and after school programs—was inspired by Reach Out and Read’s mission that every family should have the tools and support to make shared reading a daily routine. It was that mission that made them decide to make Children’s Wisconsin-Westbrook Pediatrics the recipient of the books.

“Knowing that our donations would directly impact families in our own community made this initiative even more meaningful for our students and families,” said Peter Mol, family experience coordinator at Primrose School of Brookfield.

The book drive was part of Og’s Bountiful Books, a Primrose Schools® service-learning project that encourages families to read together at home while also sharing the joy of stories with classmates and children who may not have easy access to books. This initiative is also woven into the schools Balanced Learning® curriculum, which nurtures academics, play, and character development—helping children grow into kind, confident, and compassionate learners.

“Families took time at home to sort through their bookshelves, having meaningful conversations with their children about how their donated books would soon bring joy to another child,” said Mol.

Primrose School of Brookfield also partnered with The Living Word Lutheran Church of Waukesha, whose members also contributed books to the donation.

“Thanks to the incredible support and community, we gathered over 1,000 books to donate—spreading the love of reading to even more children,” said Mol.

Mol and other members of the school were able to drop off the donated books at Children’s Wisconsin-Westbrook Pediatrics in mid-March.

“On behalf of Westbrook Pediatrics, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Primrose School of Brookfield for their incredible donation of books,” said Jessica Severson, RN. “This thoughtful gift will inspire our young patients and families, filling their hearts with joy and minds with endless possibilities as they embark on new adventures through the pages.”

Children’s Wisconsin-Westbrook Pediatrics will use the donated books at sibling and sick visits, and for well-child visits with older children.

“Our goal is to inspire families to establish a regular reading routine at home and to highlight the profound impact of early literacy on a child’s future,” said Mol. “By coming together as a community, we can help nurture a lifelong love of reading and ensure that every child has access to the joy and knowledge found in books.”

They certainly did just that.
