biography
Jean L. DesJardin, Ph.D. is a Professor and Chair of the Education Department at Moravian University. She teaches the following courses at the undergraduate and graduate level: Language Acquisition and Development, Child Development and Cognition, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and student teaching seminar. Jean was a teacher for of the Deaf for 13 years before obtaining her PhD from a joint doctoral program from California State University and the University of California at Los Angeles in Special Education and Educational Psychology. She holds a M.S. in Deaf Education from Canisius College, Buffalo, NY.
Her current research interests include parental self-efficacy and involvement in early intervention, and language outcomes for young children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH), and co-teaching in higher education. Jean has also been awarded several state grants to support candidates seeking special education certification. She has published several articles in the field of early childhood special education and communication disorders, and presents at national and international conferences.

Past Research
I have been involved in NIH longitudinal grants investigating child development and family support for young children who are DHH and their families.

Co-teaching at the higher education in the field of special education – presenting at CEC-TED this fall.

Implementation of co-teaching materials for pre-professionals in co-taught special education college classrooms.
