In the know “Reach out and Read”

(25News)

“The nice thing about this [Reach Out and Read] program is it’s actually 30 years old, which means they’ve done quite a few research projects to show its impact. For families that participate in this program, the parents are 2.5 times more likely to read to their children, and the children actually have significantly higher receptive and expressive language scores.”

Dr. Ashley Fisher, a pediatrician with Carle Health, stopped by 25News to talk about the Reach Out and Read program, its impact on young children and families, and the role of local healthcare providers, and showcased examples of developmentally appropriate books for children of different ages.
